Design in the periphery

After realising that designing for developing countries without knowing the actual needs of the people in the periphery we approached the project in a different way. Instead of doing something for the periphery we asked what does the periphery for us?

We decided to analyze "periphery-design" and how it influences our the product range and buying patterns. In our research we interviewed retailers from Brasil, Russia, India, Iran, Turkey, China and Ghana about their relation to Design.

We learned about the power of design but also quality and the triggers for emotional and rational decisions.

Last but not least we found jawdropping and curious products which would never be part of our world without the influence of the periphery. We presented these treasures and the discovered product-stories in a shopsystem like exhibition.
